Packaging and filling success for essential medical supplies
THE CHALLENGE
When their packaging partner became unable to continue fulfillment, a medical supplier needed a new packaging solution. The maker of single-use medical supplies had a long list of needs, all based on making the product easy for medical professionals to use in hospital settings. The packaging had to house an individual product (as opposed to a multipack); it had to be easy to open quickly; it had to support clear and sharp printing for easily scannable bar codes; it had to utilize variable data printing to include lot numbers; and it had to be able to display the product inside. In addition, the manufacturer hoped to move away from plastic packaging and find a more environmentally friendly solution.
THE SOLUTION
When this customer initially approached JBM for a packaging solution, they emphasized the importance of functionality and the need to balance material quality with cost. JBM was able to provide custom mockups for a variety of paper packaging solutions so the supplier could compare the options to its existing plastic packaging. The client selected JBM’s EcoView™ packaging, a fully recyclable windowed package. JBM designed a custom windowed envelope with a perforated top for easy opening. In the past, the medical supplier had outsourced filling to a contract packaging partner, but leadership was considering a pricey investment in equipment to bring filling capabilities in-house. JBM was able to satisfy this need as well, providing a filling solution that combined machine and hand filling.
THE RESULTS
After the customer began using JBM for their packaging solution, they received positive feedback from end users. Medical professionals shared that they loved the packaging design, the ease of use and that it is fully recyclable. A year after signing with JBM, representatives from the medical supplier visited JBM headquarters to meet the team.
