Oregon State Turns to JBM to Streamline Its Seed Packet Printing and Filling

THE CHALLENGE

Oregon State University (OSU)’s College of Agricultural Sciences runs The Honey Bee Research and Extension Program. It distributes wildflower and grass seed packets to support its focus on improving nutrition and pollen resources for bees. To create seed packets, OSU worked with a vendor that outsourced the packets and then filled the seeds. OSU wanted a provider that offered a turn-key solution for their seed packet needs—printing, filling and fulfillment—all in one place.

THE SOLUTION

When OSU came to JBM, we knew we could help streamline their entire seed packaging process. After we printed their artwork on our templates, we manufactured the packets. Our filling specialists prepared our automated seed-filling equipment and dispersed the pollinator mix into each packet. We check the packets at multiple points: measuring the seed once it’s dispensed into the packet, ensuring the packet is sealed correctly, and weighing the sealed packet for a final check.

THE RESULTS

Working with JBM enabled OSU to consolidate its pollinator seed program to a single vendor. JBM became a single point of contact to design, manufacture and fill the seed packets. In addition to reducing the number of calls and time spent overseeing the production and filling of the seed packets, they found it was an efficient solution that reduced turnaround time to help seeds get in the ground more quickly.

WE SHIPPED JBM THE SEED FOR OUR POLLINATOR PACKETS, AND THEY HANDLED EVERYTHING FROM PRINTING TO FILLING. MY FOCUS IS BEE RESEARCH, SO THIS GAVE ME PEACE OF MIND THAT EVERYTHING WAS HANDLED UNDER ONE ROOF AND ALLOWED ME TO FOCUS ON THE BEES.”
